Why the term "vegan leather" is misleading
At Lubay, we only use high-end alternatives to traditional materials—free from animal-derived components, without compromising on aesthetics or ethics. But beyond the materials, using precise terminology is essential.

A lexical contradiction
According to the Larousse dictionary:
Leather: "The hide of an animal, particularly bovine, intended for tanning; tanned and processed skin, used in various industries."
Veganism: "A lifestyle that excludes all animal-derived products (food, clothing, cosmetics, etc.)."
The term "vegan leather" is therefore, by definition, an oxymoron. At Lubay, we don't say "vegan leather bags", we choose to use accurate terms to describe our materials.
Premium alternatives to leather
NWe meticulously select our materials for their quality, aesthetics, and innovation. We refer to them by their actual names, respecting the identity and craftsmanship of the European manufacturers who develop them :
Grape Skin® – Made from Italian winemaking residues, it offers a refined alternative with an elegant texture.
Leap® – An innovative and next-gen material, made from apple waste from European juice and cider producers.
Piñatex® – Derived from pineapple leaf fibers, it is valued for its durability and distinctive grain.
Liège – Naturally lightweight, water-resistant, and highly resilient, it has been a premium choice in accessories for years.

At Lubay, we love words and their accuracy. We attach paramount importance to the precision of language, and that's why you won't find the term 'vegan leather bag' in our collections. We prefer to tell you about the innovative materials we use, which have nothing to envy animal leather, by calling them by their name. This requirement of vocabulary is for us a way of offering you clear and precise information. Luxury and commitment can go hand in hand, and this also involves words.
